Lacazette confirms stay at Lyon, promising to help team compete for Ligue 1 title.
Updated:2025-09-17 08:32 Views:125Paris Saint-Germain striker Alexandre Lacazette has confirmed his future will remain in France after agreeing terms on a new deal with Lyon.
The 29-year-old forward has been linked with a move away from the French club this summer, with reports suggesting he may have been tempted by offers from other top-flight clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea.
However, Lacazette has now put any speculation to rest by signing a new contract until 2024, which will see him remain at the Parc OL until 2024.
In a statement released by the club, Lacazette said: "I am very happy to be staying at Lyon. I want to thank the club for their trust in me and my family."
He added: "I am ready to work hard every day to help the team compete for the Ligue 1 title next season."
Lacazette's arrival at Lyon in 2016 marked the beginning of a successful partnership between the two clubs, with the Frenchman scoring over 150 goals in 188 appearances for the club.
His commitment to the club was further cemented when he signed a new four-year contract in May last year, with the defender also committing to a longer-term deal with the club.
Lacazette's return to Lyon is a welcome boost for the club, who were recently knocked out of the Europa League by Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.
The striker's return to the club comes just weeks after they lost key players such as Nabil Fekir and Memphis Depay to bigger clubs in Europe.
Despite the loss of these players, Lyon still managed to secure a top-four finish in the league last season, and will be hoping to build on that success this term under new head coach Rudi Garcia.
