La Liga Round 8: Barcelona defeats Girona 2-1, Lewandowski scores twice.

The La Liga Round 8 fixture on Sunday saw Barcelona defeat Girona 2-1 and Lionel Messi scored twice in the process.

Barcelona started brightly as they took the lead after just five minutes when Sergio Busquets headed home from a corner.

Girona came back with a goal of their own three minutes later when Mario Balotelli found the net following a corner kick.

However, it was Barcelona who were able to break the deadlock in the second half as Luis Suárez headed home from close range.

Lewandowski then added his second goal in the first half for Girona before Lionel Messi's equaliser in stoppage time.

It was a strong performance from the Spanish giants as they look to continue their good form this season.

Barcelona have been playing well lately and have shown flashes of brilliance at times throughout the campaign. They have also made some impressive signings in recent months, including Neymar Jr. and Luka Modric.

Despite being down to nine players due to injury, they managed to hold out against Girona despite the loss of key players such as Jordi Alba and Iker Casillas.

Their performances in front of goal will certainly be remembered by fans as they looked to make a statement ahead of the Champions League.

It remains to be seen whether they can maintain their strong form and progress further up the table next season. However, they should be regarded as one of the favourites to secure promotion to the Premier League next season.
